Project Title
Periglacial geomorphology and mass movement on Ward Hunt Island, Nunavut
Description of the project research
The project focuses on the role of periglacial mass movements (solifluction) on sediment transfers from the hillslopes into Ward Hunt Lake, the northernmost research station in Canada. We are also conducting geomorphological surveys and measuring active-layer thermal and physical processes. The project has been enhanced in 2013 in order to encompass sediment movement and slope denudation measurements. We will monitor and survey the entire 2013 snowmelt period and associate hydrological processes with sediment delivery and slope evolution. The goal is to improve the understanding of slope evolution in high arctic environments as well and eventually create a link between watershed processes and lake caracteristics in cold environments.
