The Northern Ellesmere Island in the Global Environment (NEIGE) project is an interdisciplinary research focused on the Northern coast of Ellesmere Island, in the High Canadian Arctic. The project studies extremophile biology in cold environments and their response to climate change. On Ward Hunt Island, geomorphological controls on mass and sediment transfers to Ward Hunt Lake are being studied in order to determine mass-balance and nutrient flux to the lake and to the bacterial population. The research station is the northernmost in Canada and provides a great monitoring site of climate change effects on cryospheric features and ecosystems.
