RAC/Nunavik Project

The Regional Adaptation Collaborative (RAC) project seeks to define permafrost conditions in four Nunavik (northern Quebec) villages (Akulivik, Kangirsuk, Puvirnituuq and Tasiujaq) as a housing development planning operation. The project is financed by the Ouranos consortium (Consortium on Regional Climatology and Adaptation to Climate Change) and the Kativik Regional Administration. It joins scientifics from Laval University and University of Montreal through the CEN. The main objective is to map the surface deposits and develop a risk assessment map considering permafrost thaw and degradation in a climate change context. The final report will be transmitted to local and regional authorities to facilitate housing development project planning and minimize maintenance costs of infrastructures.
